Angina Pectoris
Angina Pectoris is a condition in which a person has short attacks of severe chest pain or pressure because there is not enough blood flow carrying oxygen) to the heart muscles. The pain may also be felt in the left shoulder or down the inside of the left arm. Angina is usually a signal of underlying coronary heart disease. Factors that may influence the outcome of coronary artery or coronary heart disease include: the extent of the coronary artery blockage, and the amount of normal heart muscle function. A variety of medications can relieve the painful attacks, and two surgical approaches are often effective in both preventing the attacks, and in preventing or delaying heart attacks. They are (a) coronary artery bypass surgery, and (b) coronary angioplasty.
