What Things Help You Decide Who Your Friends Are?

How Can We Help Prevent Teen Violence?

Sandy says:
  • Your friends are a reflection of you.
  • The people we choose to "hang out" with are in some ways like us.
  • One thing that helps me decide who my friends are is realizing whether or not they stand in the way of what I want to accomplish.
  • Friends should support you and realize that sometimes certain priorities must be met before you can set aside quality time for them
  • Another thing that can help you decide is realizing whether or not they have something going for them. If they do not have any real goals in life and decide that they want to drop out of school, you have to realize that could affect your mentality whether you want it to or not.
  • The basic concept of choosing friends is evaluating what is best for you. Are these friends going to help you reach your goals while reaching their own or are they going to try to bring you down with them? In the end, you will realize that a friend is there for you in good times as well as bad times.
Reenee says:
  • One important characteristic a friend should have is honesty.
  • You need honesty in a friendship because friends should not hide anything from each other. With honesty comes trust.
  • I think you and your friend should have things in common so you can relate to them.
  • You also want a friend that is easy to talk to and someone that has time to deal with your problems.
  • Teenagers especially need friends that they can count on through ups and downs.
  • You do not want a friend that has a bad reputation. If your friend has a bad reputation, you might be associated with their reputation because you are their friend.
  • Your friend needs to have respect for himself or herself, and respect for you..
  • You do not want a friend with bad habits such as cutting school or sneaking out of the house.
  • A friend is someone that you can trust, count on in times of need, talk to, and have a good time with him or her.
